Planet B-Boy

Monday, November 3, 2008 at 1:10 am (... in theatre, The movie I watch) (, )

Planet b-boy is a documentary story of 4 b-boy teams: USA, France, Japan and South Korea while they practice and involved in B-boy Battle of The Year.

Personally, I really love documentary movie. And I should praise this one. The story order is really documentary type. Its started with “What is B-boy?”. Mmm, I just know that people who doing breakdance was called ‘b-boy’, and not ‘breaker’ as I always called them all this time. Continue with the history (not forget to mention the up-and-down) of breakdance, the history of b-boy Battle of The Year, and the strong competitors in the competition. The story goes to 4 strong competitors and their uniqueness. USA with the history, France with the power and speed, Japan with the idea and South Korea with the technique. Full with record of practice time, way of life and family moment, make me really get into the (reality) movie.

Not box-office type of movie, only a few people in theatre when I watched it. But, the theatre is full of “uuuu” and “aaa” noise, each time amazing technique shown in the theatre screen. And I have to tell you, there are so many breakdance techniques that I’ve never seen it before, and I will never ever believe that human being can do such technique unless I see it by my own eyes. I believe each people in theatre that night, somewhere in their mind, making plan to go see b-boy Battle of The Year sometimes in their life, as I do.

So, what the best thing about the movie? Something that makes me loves documentary movie. Feel sad when the subject’s cry, feel happy when the the subject’s smile, feel beaten when one competitor lose and feel the celebration when the other competitor cheering their winning. 😀

Watching the Detectives

Monday, October 13, 2008 at 11:05 am (... in DVD, The movie I watch) (, , , )

Romantic comedy movie about movie geek and boring phobia girl. …

Don’t really know what else to say. It’s romantic comedy, simple love story, and happy ending definitely. Neil is movie geek obsessed with detective role. He loves to put his girlfriend in movie re-creation situation, while watching her from far away. He will dumped her right away if she don’t act as the actress on the movie. One day, here comes violet, over-the-top personality and weird fashion style. Neil fall in love at the first sight, first dinner and goodnight kiss. Until he found out, that Violet is too unpredictable. She put him on movie like situation, just like he does to all his past girlfriend. And, he can’t stand it. uh oh.

Watching The Detectives is festival movie. Supposed to be in theatre on Valentine, but straight right to DVD. My first reason to watch it because of Cillian Murphy plays the main role (^O^) . The movie shot only took place in about 3 area, Neil store, Violet neighbourhood, here and there in some anonymous town. Hm, so festival movie type. Actually, this movie have very good detail. Neil is obsessed with old (black-and-white) movie, so take a look at his register cash machine and his office, so old fashion look. Violet unpredictable over-the-top personality showed by the way she dressed, her furniture-less home and big “doraemon* pocket” bag (because she has soooo many weird things on her big bag).

Unfortunately, this movie is not as funny as it has to be. The jokes are in the conversation, which said with serious gesture (?) I need to watch it twice to really get the joke. The ‘worst’ thing in the movie: The actor and actress plays really good, make me wanna punch Lucy Liu and scream “ He’s (Cillian Murphy) mine!!”

*Doraemon: Fictional robotic cat character in Manga (and later, Anime) series by Fujiko F. Fujio. Doraemon has a large pocket from which he produces many gadgets from the future. The pocket is called yojigen-pocket, or 4 dimension pocket.
